Elizabeth Holloway Sheppard
December 18, 1923 - May 18, 2009
ELIZABETH HOLLOWAY SHEPPARD, 85, of Valdosta, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at her home.
She was born in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Charles and Olive Harper Holloway. Mrs. Sheppard had taught elementary school in the Savannah-Chatham County School System, later becoming a librarian. She retired from Volusia County School System, Daytona Beach, FL, as a librarian. She and her husband, Joseph Davis Sheppard, moved to Valdosta in 1985. Mr. Sheppard died in 1999.
Mrs. Sheppard had deep Christian faith within herself, was very religious and had attended several local churches. She enjoyed working in the yard and garden, reading and boating.
She is survived by her son, Joey and wife Valerie Sheppard of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Jenny Mayfield and husband Nash of Macon, Joseph Davis Sheppard III of Valdosta, Victoria Sheppard of Chattanooga, TN, and Stefanie Trexler of Valdosta; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane Mann of Atlanta; one brother, Charles L. Holloway of Daytona Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.to 8 pm Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home and on Friday, May 22, 2009 and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Bonaventure Cemetery with Reverend Jim Rush officiating.

I am the current owner of the 1962 Volkswagen Beetle first owned by Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard. I spoke to Mrs. Sheppard shortly after buying the car in 2006. She had some charming thoughts to share with me regarding the car and I enjoyed speaking to her. I sent her photos of the car, still in its original turquoise color. I don't know why I suddenly thought of looking up her name on the Internet today. I am sorry that she has passed on. I will never ever forget Mr. Allen's smile and greeting over in Hodges Hall. We have lost a blessing. My heart and prayers go out to the family.
